Mount Rainier Cabin
COPPER CREEK INN CELEBRATES 3RD ANNIVERSARY UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP

“Blow up your TV
Throw away the paper
Move to the country,
Build you a home,
John Prine from the song “Flag Decal”

“That's exactly what we did three years ago when we bought the Copper Creek Inn” says Phil Freeman as he and his wife, Catharine Gallagher, celebrated their third anniversary of ownership of the Historic Country Inn 2 miles from the Mt. Rainier National Park entrance. On April 16 the restaurant was filled with 50's music all day, while customers enjoyed $3.00 burger fries and sodas. A Live Band played in the evening for the 50's style Sock Hop. They played all the great hits by Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Patsy Cline and Everly Brothers. The band, all friends of Freeman and Gallagher who dontated their talents to the event included infamous locals like Pat Kennedy, Tom Touse, Val Rotter, Bill Compher, Steve Schwind and Copper Creek owner Phil Freeman.

Restoring the Copper Creek Inn to its former glory has been a labor of love for the Graphic Designer and Video Production Company owner from Seattle. “We wanted to get out of the city... I wanted to get my hands in the earth.. I wanted to paint” said Catharine Gallagher in her newly completed working Art Gallery and Studio, “ART BY THE YARD” at the Copper Creek Lodge across Copper Creek from the Restaurant. We developed a wonderful business “Greatgetaways.com” while we were in Seattle. Our cabins “A River Runs Through It” and “Grey Fox” at Steven's Pass and “Mio and Mini Amore” on Puget Sound were booking all the time. We were looking for a property at Mt. Rainier when quite by chance we found the Copper Creek Inn. I was visiting my long time friend Rebecca Weaver at her studio in Eatonville. We were having a “heart to heart” so we asked Phil to bring us Espresso's from the Gypsy Wagon. There is a real estate office between Rebecca's and the Gypsy Wagon. Phil saw a flyer for Copper Creek in the window. I sent him out for coffee and he came back with a Restaurant!”

Freeman was intrigued by the possibilities at the inn. We opened Easter Weekend in ` 01, with wonderful food, a great staff and a very charming, non smoking restaurant. We remodeled the suites upstairs and the Log Cabin for overnight lodging. We upgraded the electrical system including new lighting in the restaurant and gift shop, doubled our baking capacity and added award winning salmon with Blackberry Vinaigrette, Baked Halibut Supreme and bountiful salads to Copper Creek's traditional favorites, Trout, Copper Topper cinnamon rolls, Homemade bread and our famous Blackberry Pie. The biggest change is we are open everyday. It is beautiful at Mt. Rainier in the winter. We felt if we stayed open, people would come. This has proven to be true. Especially now that they can stay overnight. They love waking up to the fire and gentle snowfall. Catharine's dream is to walk into the restaurant with bushels of fresh vegetables grown in the gardens of Copper Creek Lodge which we purchased two years ago. She will fulfill that dream this summer, having just finished planting this past week.

It's been a very full plate of activity for Gallagher and Freeman over the past three years. Copper Creek Inn is a very fun place to be.
