The Cartier Years
at Copper Creek Lodge, 1919

Copper Crerek Lodge was built by lumber baron and former Mayor of South Bend Washington, George Robinson Cartier in about 1920. He retired at age 50, and moved to Copper Creek at Mt Rainier with his younger wife Jessie. The attention to detail and craftsmanship are present everywhere. . . carefully fitted close grain logs, stout dutch doors with bow tie dove tails, hand split cedar shakes, stone fireplace and beautiful wood floors throughout.

Sometime before 1946 a bridge was built over Copper Creek to connect Copper Creek Inn to Copper Creek Lodge. The bridge washed out in a flood in the late 70's.

Copper Creek circa 1946 (at left) looks much the same today.

Inscription on back of photo below reads "Ricki, Bonnie, Toni at Copper Creek Lodge 1946.

A Mr. Parrish owned the property until 1951. He traded the lodge property for Roy Van Cleave's property in Kennewich, consisting of a house with a basement apartment, a small cottage, and a lucrative Mobile gas station. (All built by Roy in 1943.)
