Abortion

I do not believe President Bush would even have discussed abortion in the campaign if it had not been thrust upon him by the abortion crowd and their cohorts. Why should abortion be an overriding national issue like educationor crime? Abortion is an issue only between a woman and her impregnator. If the government was involved in the conception then government might also be involved in the abortion---otherwise not. That's N-O-T as in not.

Abortion legislation is social-behavior legislation such as is made all the time, but abortion is not the business of government; it is meddling in religious beliefs and violates our principles (if we still have any) of "separation of church and state". Abortion is in direct conflict with religion. It is inextricably entwined with Creation, and that is a religious issue if there ever was one! So this is an area government must keep its nose out of.

If a woman wishes to bear a child, even after medical opinions indicate the child will be born with abnormalities, that should be her decision and she is responsible for the child. She cannot afterwards throw that responsibility back onto the government. If a woman wishes to abort a pregnancy, based on medical advisories, that should be her decision as well and no stigma should attach to her for that decision.

You will note that I have not said one word about government financial involvement because there should be none. I suspect, however, that finances are at the root of the arguments and are implicit in the idea of "free" abortions or abortions on demand. Since this is a religious question and the government can make no laws concerning it, the question is moot.
